tomorrow i'll be out with my bestie looking for decorations: flowers, vases, ribbons, fabric, the works basically. in the meantime, here's a little diy floral arrangement that i really like.

it's a simple hanging arrangement that uses a canning jar (you can get them at cold storage... i have a whole bunch for my diy body products). here's how you do it.

i decided to make the favors myself for the bertunang ceremony. i'm not going to reveal them yet as i want them to be a surprise for my friends & family. i figure it won't take me too long to make 100... right? anyways, wish me luck!

p/s: we finally managed to confirm that the bertunang will be on 22 may which is also my birthday! yaaaaay!

kirigami flowers

i shared this new discovery thanks to threadbanger over at my mimpimurni blog when it suddenly occured to me that these awesome kirigami flowers would look great as part of the wedding decor! now, kirigami is really new to me so i'm going to do a bit of research plus some diy-ing before i commit to it but i'm sure i'll have fun trying it out.

wishing tree

being half chinese, i think it'd be great to somehow incorporate my chinese roots into the wedding & i think these floral arrangements by wishing tree are just the ticket. peonies & pussy willows... you can't get anymore chinese than that!

dessert table

for a sweet tooth such as myself, these dessert tables done by amy atlas are heaven! dessert tables are a growing party trend that makes me very happy & something that i can imagine having at our wedding (if our budget allows it that is!).

pegaga

no, it's not a lady gaga wannabe but a wonderful little plant & one of my favorite things to grow (and honestly, one of the few plants i can't kill).

 

i've been scratching my head for a cheap yet eco-friendly favor idea to give out to guests for our bertunang ceremony when it finally hit me: why not share with our guests my love for the wonders of pegaga (or centella asiatica) which i've blogged about here too!

it's a wonderfully easy plant to care for as long as you remember to water it (just keep it near your kitchen sink or bathroom if you're forgetful like me) & it looks so amazingly lush. it can be eaten raw as ulam or added into salads or kerabu. for days such as these days when it's so hot, the leaves of the pegaga can be blended into a drink and drunk to cool the body. you can read more about this wondrous plant here & here.

more flower favors

another great, eco-friendly favor idea that i've been playing around with is giving out flowering plants like these bright & colorful zinnias. they'll look good on the table as decoration & guests can then take them home! i like.

tea cup flowers

as i mentioned before, our bertunang ceremony is going to take place during high-tea so i've been searching for diy tea related favors. this tea cup flower arrangement can not only serve as table decoration but guests can take home & use the tea cup long after the flowers have faded. i love a good dual purpose favor, don't you?

tea bags

as we're planning our bertunang ceremony to take place during high tea, i've been looking up some diy tea bag favor ideas & so far this is my favorite. i don't quite fancy the packaging but i love the play of words! oh, how about "our love is the perfect blend"? hehehe

pretty boxes

you know me folks. i'm all about diy wherever possible & looks like i found the cutest little boxes that i can customise & print out from the comfort of home if i decide to give out something that needs a box. printing & cutting these myself will be a breeze for my small, family & close friends only bertunang ceremony.

fabric flower garland

i shared this lovely fabric flower garland tutorial over at my other blog awhile back but i think they deserve another mention here. if i have time to make these, i'll definitely make a couple of meters worth as backdrop decoration or to hang in the tent.

fabric pom poms

ok. so the word "pom poms" doesn't exactly exude elegance but trust me, these fabric pom poms are pretty & dare i say it? yes, classy.

it's a simple diy project that anyone can whip up with some fabric, a round chinese lantern (or even a styrofoam ball) & a hot glue gun. make your own (as will i) with the full tutorial here on once wed.

bertunang theme color

i spent the whole of yesterday discussing bertunang plans then travelled all the way to melaka & back (don't ask why) to pick out the fabric for my dress, my mothers, my father & my dulang carriers. upon checking out all the fabric options for my dress, i picked out the most elegant piece i could find that fit in with my design sensibilities (vintage inspired, pretty & not too over the top). i still can't stop myself from touching the beaded & embroidered fabric...

the sequins are actually silver, not gold.

upon picking out the fabric which took me less than 30 minutes, it was a breeze to pick out fabric for everyone else & to set the theme color: teal, turquoise & tan. i know this particular combo is not necessarily everyone's cup of tea but i think it's a classic color combination that will look good on everyone & it's definitely unexpected.... just the way i like it.

from bunting to quilt

hmmmm, i wonder if i'll be as industrious as caitlin of salty oat when my wedding date approaches?

[taken off craftzine] before her wedding last year, she gathered fabric scraps from some of her wedding guests. she took the scraps and created a simple bunting that was used as decoration at the ceremony and reception. since the wedding, she's taken the bunting pieces and turned them in to a beautiful quilt, filled with memories from the special day and of the people represented by each triangle of fabric.

awwww how sweet and such a great idea for reusing those fabric scraps! i just love the eclectic mix of colors too.

p/s: i love all the save-the-date videos too, especially the one above of simon & debby as it really looks like they're are having so much fun. i think it'll make a great replacement for the standard video montage shown at weddings too... oh, the possibilities!

embroidered invitation

i can not express how much i LOVE this invitation set custom made by anna from rifle. from her blog:  "This is Kate & Avi's set. The couple lives in & got married in Brooklyn last September. For their invitation we decided to play up their love for handmade with a hand sewn invitation design. I used embroidery thread and sewed it directly into paper to create the design and then added hand painted lettering before scanning the art for printing."

i could SO do this. 

love balloons

because bobby proposed to me at the hot air balloon fiesta, I think it's only appropriate if we have balloons somehow incorporated into our wedding, like this engagement photoshoot of tori and austin. i love how whimsical it all looks. the lighting. the bright colors. how the little "austin love tori" even looks like a little balloon. perfection.
